Who We Are //
Building a Community
To Reach a Community
We’re a multicultural, multigenerational community learning what it means to follow Jesus together. We believe God invites every person into a transforming relationship with Him, no matter who you are or where you’re starting from. Our mission is to build a loving community that follows Christ, so we can reach a community that is lost without Him. We hope to be a church that lives for the good of our city and shares the love of Jesus with the world.

Who We Are //
What WE BElieve
We are an evangelical church and are a part of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA Full Statement of Faith).
Invisible
Our Core BEliefs
God
There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Bible
We believe the Bible is uniquely God-inspired and without error in the original writings. It is the basis for our beliefs and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus is true God and true man. He lived a perfect life and died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins. He arose bodily from the dead.
People
All people have sin in their lives and need God’s forgiveness. Those who trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone for their salvation become true members of the body of Christ.
Holy Spirit
The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.
Christ’s Return
At the end, everyone will experience bodily resurrection and the judgment. Those who have faith in Christ will enjoy eternal fellowship with God.
Baptism
We believe that baptism is for believers who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. Water baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality, signifying to family and friends that you have decided to follow Jesus. Baptism is a special moment to experience in a tactile way what God has done for you in Christ.
If you believe that Christ died for your sins and that He is your only hope for eternal life, then baptism might be the next step in your faith journey.
Communion
“For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” – 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 (NIV)
Jesus instituted a common practice for His followers that would remind them of who He is and what He has done. Paul speaks of this in the verses above. Remembering what Christ has done reminds us of his presence and brings it to life in us, encouraging us to live in the grace He has provided.
There are many different ways that communion is practiced in various churches and denominations. At Blackhawk we celebrate communion – sometimes called the Lord’s Supper – once a month during our regular worship services, and occasionally at special worship services. Anyone who has placed their faith in Christ alone for salvation is welcome to participate in communion, regardless of your church affiliation. As we participate, may we remember that true life is only found in Jesus.
Bible Translations
Understanding Bible Translations
The Bible was originally written in classical Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, which means we rely on translations to read it. Today, we are fortunate to have excellent modern translations that help us understand God’s Word. Different translations serve various purposes. For example:
The English Standard Version (ESV) closely follows the original Hebrew and Greek structure, making it ideal for in-depth Biblestudy, though it can be more challenging to read.
The Message (MSG) offers a contemporary, conversational style that resonates with modern readers, making it perfect for devotional reading.
The New International Version (NIV) strikes a balance between readability and accuracy, making it ideal for Bible studies, personal reading, and worship. This is the primary translation used at Blackhawk Church.
Don’t feel pressured to choose just one translation! The key is to find the one that helps you connect with God’s Word in a meaningful way. Each translation has its strengths, and together they enhance our understanding of the Bible. Consider using The Message for devotional time while utilizing the NIV or ESV for deeper study.
