The Beacon homeless day resource center provides community solutions to help men, women, and children who are experiencing homelessness in Dane County, Wisconsin. They are committed to providing services that address the causes of homelessness in an environment that allows people to feel welcome, safe, and respected. Guests have access to resources and professional staff to assist them with housing, employment, mental health, and substance abuse counseling; as well as services that help restore their dignity such as showers and laundry facilities.

They offer a wide array of crisis intervention and community education/prevention programs, including a 24-hour Help Line, programming for children from violent homes, legal advocacy, support groups, and emergency safety planning. DAIS is also the only domestic violence shelter in all of Dane County.

In this course, we’ll explore what it could look like to navigate politics and political issues in a way that both honors God and seeks the flourishing of those around us. We’ll seek to create a safe space for open and honest conversation where we can humbly disagree with each other but learn from each other’s perspectives. We’ll hear talks from Charles Yu and Walter Kim. Walter Kim is President of the National Association of Evangelicals. He earned his PhD at Harvard, was a chaplain at Yale, and has served in diverse pastoral ministries. He is on the board of World Relief, Christianity Today, and The Salvation Army, USA. He is often sought out for his theological and cultural commentary on issues facing the church and society.

The goal of this event is to welcome and invite the Stoner Prairie and surrounding neighborhoods to Fitchburg. There will be an opportunity to be inside the building with beverages, restrooms, and 2 or 3 interactive displays inside, with the cotton candy and remaining trunks outside in the parking lot. The hot chocolate with peppermint sticks, apple cider and water will be setup near the fireplace in the atrium. We will block off the entrance from Astor Drive and direct vehicle traffic from Seminole Highway, park in the lot area closest to the highway and have (30) vehicles that are decorated parked on the other side of the parking lot with the thought being that it would be easy access to the people walking to the event. We are asking people to RSVP for the event and sign up to help, consider donating candy or hosting their trunk via Signup Genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49ABAA2EA6FBC61-50146124-blackhawk. Music will be playing in the parking lot and in the building throughout the event.

Tom & Becca Whitney, one of Blackhawk Global Servants, serve with Overland Missions in the Namibe Province of Angola. They work to identify remote people groups in southwest Angola and engage them with the love of Christ through actions and the spoken gospel to empower indigenous believers to be who God created them to be, as well as equip and launch them into continuing the ministry on their own. Join us on Sunday, November 10 (10:45-12:00), to hear more about their ministry and experiences.

Blackhawk Church currently supports about 30 Global and National Servants who live in Madison, nationally, and globally. Christmas season is a difficult time for you or for someone you love – and that can be for so many reasons: grief, difficult relationships, anxiety, depression, or concern for violence and injustice in our world – we want you to know that you are not alone, and that we serve a God who sees each and every one of us. So we are holding a different kind of service we’re calling “Blue Christmas” on Tuesday, December 17 at our Brader Way site. This will be a time where we can bring our pain and heartache to God and experience His very real hope and comfort.

The Beacon homeless day resource center provides community solutions to help men, women, and children who are experiencing homelessness in Dane County, Wisconsin. They are committed to providing services that address the causes of homelessness in an environment that allows people to feel welcome, safe, and respected. Guests have access to resources and professional staff to assist them with housing, employment, mental health, and substance abuse counseling; as well as services that help restore their dignity such as showers and laundry facilities.

Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) works to make Dane County, WI, a safer, more just, more equitable place for people who have experienced domestic violence, their children, and the people who love them. They offer a wide array of crisis intervention and community education/prevention programs, including a 24-hour Help Line, programming for children from violent homes, legal advocacy, support groups, and emergency safety planning. DAIS is also the only domestic violence shelter in all of Dane County.

Every spring we choose a time to go into the Dane County community to serve all together as a church community. We call this Love Madison. We want to connect with our neighbors and actively show people the love of Jesus through our actions! Throughout the year, people who attend Blackhawk Church are serving all over our community. But on this day, we want to serve on a grander scale by engaging the whole church in projects all over Dane County.

Projects include in-person outdoor and indoor projects with community organizations with tasks such as gardening or landscape clean-up, deep cleaning, sorting, administrative, and much more. We also have projects that can be done in whatever city you are in (check out our Serve Where You projects). There’s something for everyone. Registration opens on Sunday, April 21 and closes on Sunday, May 12. Sign up today
