Blackhawk’s mission as a church flows out of our

beliefs and values
Build a Loving Community that Follows Christ, in Order to Reach a Community that is Lost without Him

Our Beliefs

We are an evangelical church and are a part of the Evangelical Free Church of America. That’s why at Blackhawk you will hear messages that focus our attention on what the Bible says and how that message can transform us into becoming the kind of people God wants us to be. Our core beliefs:

God

There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Bible

We believe the Bible is uniquely God-inspired and without error in the original writings. It is the basis for our beliefs and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus is true God and true man. He lived a perfect life and died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins. He arose bodily from the dead.

People

All people have sin in their lives and need God’s forgiveness. Those who trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone for their salvation become true members of the body of Christ.

Holy Spirit

The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

Christ’s Return

At the end, everyone will experience bodily resurrection and the judgment. Those who have faith in Christ will enjoy eternal fellowship with God.

Our Values

Blackhawk exists to bring people into relationship with God through Jesus Christ, draw them into a Christ-centered community, and to help them grow and live out their faith.

Christ

We dream about being a community where Jesus Christ is the center of everything we do. We long to be a place where the centrality of Christ is elevated above controversial issues. We desire to be people who worship Christ both individually and collectively and who pursue Him in our daily lives.

Grace

We dream about being a community where we can come as imperfect people to celebrate and share in God’s transforming grace. We long to have each person come to know God’s free gift of eternal life through Christ. We seek to be a community that extends God’s grace in tangible ways to one another and to those with whom we live and work.

Truth

We dream about being a community where the search for truth is approached with honesty and humility. We believe that the ancient narratives, letters and poems of Scripture are God’s gift to lead us toward that truth. We affirm the central truths of the historic Christian faith and at the same time seek to engage with the difficult issues raised by living in a complex world.

Change

We dream about being a community where each individual is so committed to following Jesus Christ that by the power of the Holy Spirit we reorder our lives – our relationships, habits, traditions and possessions – in order to become more like Him. We envision building a community where lives are continually changing because of vital relationships with God.

Others

We dream about being a community that lives not for itself but for others. We long to develop generous hearts where Christ’s commitment to love and serve others is valued and practiced by everyone. We hold selfless, humble service of the poor and hurting in our city and world as a high ideal. We seek to be people who freely release resources for God’s redemptive work.

Together

We dream about being a community where everyone is cared for and loved. We dream about equipping each person to do the work of ministry. We seek to be a diverse community of people who have discovered their gifts, awakened their passions and joined together to participate in God’s causes in our world.

Celebration

We dream about being a community of people who are free to celebrate God’s gifts of life, love and grace. We recognize that life is difficult and at times overwhelming. We long to enjoy life and each other as we build a community in a stressful world.
